Hi, I’m Vanita Maharaj
If you’re reading this, first of all, thank you. From the bottom of my heart, and I mean that. Secondly, welcome to my blog! Make yourself at home.
A little about me:
I was born in Canada, grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, and now I’m back in Canada. I have a degree in Actuarial Science and I’m building my career in Investment Management.
I’m always trying to deepen my understanding of our world, so naturally I have a keen interest in the things that shape society - like mathematics, human psychology and politics. One of the reasons I’m so drawn to the Investment Industry is precisely because I love how geopolitics, behavioural economics and mathematics are all intertwined in the movements of financial markets.
Aside from my professional life as an Investment Analyst, I like to read, run and write - the last of which I hope to make more obvious by having this blog.
I started writing just a couple years ago when I’d publish infrequent articles on hot topics in finance, but alas, I contain multitudes, so I would like to use this blog to explore my own thoughts and writing abilities beyond expository, work-related matters.
I’m not doing this because I think I’m some fantastic writer and everyone should read what I have to say. I’m doing it because I want to be a good writer and the only way to do that is through practicing. So, this is my practice - in public. Learning in public should help me stay accountable and hopefully not be as scary as my mind keeps telling me it is. I am now obligated to make pointed observations about things and write candidly about them - but no pressure!
That being said, if you ever wished to be privy to my innermost thoughts - now you can be. And if you don’t know me, hopefully you’ll get to through my writing and we’ll be best friends soon enough.
